What exactly do grains, gluten, carbohydrates and sugars do to harm our health? Listen closely…this really makes sense.
The most important reason to reduce carbohydrates is that carbs stimulate higher insulin production. Your insulin levels rise and store the excess carb calories (as well as those from fats and protein) as our arch enemy — FAT. What happens then? Often people will power up on carbs and exercise more attempting to reduce fat. The body burns sugar and continues to store the fat. Those love handles grow even bigger after all your hard work exercising! It’s an endless cycle with disastrous results.
Insulin at normal levels is the “master hormone for its critical and comprehensive role in transporting nutrients from the bloodstream into the cells in your body, but some of its most important action takes place in muscle and fat cells. High insulin levels wreak havoc in many ways. Cholesterol and triglycerides become oxidized and inflamed, initiating the process of atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries. Powering up on carbohydrates is clearly not the way to prepare for your exercise routine, reduce fat, get energized and be healthy.
Why eliminate grains? Grains have been a part of the American diet for generations. But with the onset of foods from genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) and processed food ingredients, more and more people are experiencing problems that trace back to grains and gluten.
There are three (3) basic reasons for eliminating grains from your diet.
1. Grains elicit a high insulin response.
2. They have far less nutrition than meats, vegetables and fruits.
